I am a 26 year old transfer student from santa barbara city college. I have a 3.4 gpa and applying fall 2016. NYU, UCB, UCLA and USC are my reach schools. I am having difficulty choosing between UC Davis, UCSB and UC Irvine for my TAG. Keep in mind that I qualify for the blue and gold scholarship that pays tuition for 2 years. I have already been accepted to UH Manoa and could start this fall semester. My primary major is philosophy and I really enjoy film production/screenwriting and Chicano studies. I chose philosophy to either pursue law, business or a phd. My ultimate goal is to run multiple businesses wirelessly so I can travel freely. I am determined to graduate from college because I would be the first in my family and it would help when I apply for visas.
I live in Santa Maria and commute 1 and a half hours by bus to Santa Barbara. I would need to enroll through the fall 2016 semester to finish my prerequisites for the UCs. Also I can retake an class to change it from a D(I didn't take the final because of a family emergency and had an A up until that point) to an A. I have been restricted to SB county because of probation and have been dying to move. I grew up in Brooklyn so I somewhat prefer a city for the amenities, cultures and a wide range of things to do. I also love hiking, trail running, cycling, swimming and want to learn to surf. If I can avoid cold weather I will. I want to find a happy balance between an intellectual and emotional decision. When I received my acceptance letter from UH Manoa I was excited because I have wanted to move there for the past 10 years. I went when I was 16 and loved it. I loved that it was a unique experience from the mainland. And I also dont want to short change myself by making a short sighted decision. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!!! THANKS!!!
ps I haven't visited UC Davis (even though I have family in Woodland), UC Irvine, UMiami (have stayed months at a time in Miami and Ft Lauderdale).
