Greetings--any help at all would be of the utmost graciousness and relief to me.
Here's the deal. English Major. Went to Cerritos College for a few years, completed all GE and English AA-T classes, except last Spring, transferred to LBCC to finish my math requirements after failing to pass those at Cerritos. I am currently taking College Algebra at Long Beach City College, the transfer-level Math, and I have been accepted to CSULA and CSULB for this fall. So, of course, the CSUs have requested of me my ADT verification, and CSULB requested my official transcript (as I understand, I needn't send it to CSULA until July). It's all gone fine; the transcript has been sent to CSULB, and I applied for graduation from LBCC. I was going to go to LBCC tomorrow to have them push through the ADT, since the deadline is the 15th, this Tuesday. However, today I received an email to the tune of my graduation application having been denied, because they require a student to have taken at least 12 units of their major program 'in residency' at LBCC. Again, I have only taken math classes there, my legacy in English resides back at Cerritos. Suffice to say, I was very unaware of this stipulation in LBCC's policies. So now, obviously, some questions.
I have been given the option of appealing my degree, but I hold this to be a likely futile path, since if these are the rules, my apparent ignorance about the rules does not negate said rules. I am not sure what my appeal would consist of, other than beckoning for mercy toward my ignorance--certainly not a viable plan or one worth expending the time and effort on. Is there a known precedence for such an issue being bureaucratically sympathized with? I doubt this, but feel free to correct me. And I am interpreting this correctly, yes? As to what 'in residency' means? I mean, they have my official transcripts, so they are saying this knowing I have completed those classes elsewhere, so I take it I am understanding this accurately, and that LBCC is saying I need to have taken those minimum units AT LBCC.
If I am unable to graduate from LBCC, what about the option of attempting to graduate from Cerritos? Their deadline to submit is not for a few more weeks. Must one receive their AA-T degree from the school they are currently enrolled in? Would this lead to any trouble given that my CSU apps read that I intend to graduate from LBCC? I suppose to an extent it would come down to Cerritos's policies. I imagine they would need my official transcripts with my info from LBCC to confirm that I am taking that transferable level math there. I am considering going there to speak with a Counselor tomorrow rather than bothering with LBCC.
And i realize at this point, given the time crunch, it is probably unlikely to expect to be able to solve this before Tuesday and get that ADT pushed through (by either campus), but if anyone has any information that would help in that specific regard (like, if graduation has to be approved in order for the ADT to be completed? Or if my denial for LBCC graduation would affect my ADT if I attempted to graduate through Cerritos and have them facilitate the ADT?), that would be lovely.
Thanks very much.
