Transfer Student - Statement or Letter for Bad Grades

I am currently at my college (Small LAC out of state) and trying to transfer to another college back in my home state. However, I am a little nervous about transferring. My college is on a 4-1-4 calendar which means semester, then one month you take one class, then the next semester begins. I am applying to two colleges back home that are on average on their selectivity. Due to the situation I was in I received a bad final grade in the class I took for one month in between semesters. I will give you background on why my grade(s) haven't been up to par. I had a situation with a 'friend' which my current college is well versed about it. (Counseling department, residence life, and so on.) It involved stalking and harassment and resulted almost in a restraining order. In addition I had the option to press the person for various harassment charges. Although I was already in counseling due to homesickness I dealt with aftermath of this trauma for more than two months (and continuing). I still am seeking counseling services to cope with this. I am worried what the colleges will think about this bad grade. I'm not trying to throw myself a pity party towards the admissions but I wondered if this would provide some leverage for my bad grade. I feel like I am sounding overly worried. My freshman year has been quite difficult. I was an honors student in high school and getting bad grades is something I'm just not used to. Does anyone have any advice on how to handle this situation for the bad grades. Would a written statement/letter suffice or should I just forget about this idea to include in my transfer application.
