Returning to College 9 years later. I had a 1.7 GPA when I left. Goal: transfer to ASU online

I decided to return to college as my current Employer pays for my school. I attended University of Minnesota, and received 1.7 before I dropped. I attempted once more in 2012, but life hit me hard and I had to withdraw and received an F in a calc class because I ran out of withdraws. I received quite a few C- and I have learned they do not transfer. I cannot attend school at the U, anymore as it does not align with my work schedule. I work overnights and rotate to a different shift every 3 months. Not good for any class schedule. My current plan is to transfer what credits I can, to a local community college. The schedule is very tight, and there are some conflicts. I can resolve most of the conflicts by taking a few math classes at University of North Dakota online and transfer them to the Community College. My plan is to get an "pre engineering" associates degree to transfer to ASU online in 1 - 2 years. I would like to apply to the engineering school. I think if I could get the associates degree with decent grades, I would be able to offset the horrible transcript from the University of Minnesota. It looks like I have to send all my transcripts in. I would prefer to attend ASU first or any other reputable online college as it is very stressful to my work schedule. (i will at times have to use PTO to attend class for a few weeks out of the year). If I can bypass the community college portion, it would be great. Anybody have experience / tips / thoughts on my plan?
