Help Cross Registering Within the SUNY System

Ok. So after I did my 2 years at community college, I was dumb enough to listen to my family members who said I shouldn't go away to college and I should just work and go to college online. So I am currently taking a full time course load with SUNY Empire State College and I have been miserable ever since. For those of you who don't know, Empire State College is basically SUNY's version of DeVry. But I have always wanted to go away to college and experience new things, meet new people and grow as a person. My counselor at SUNY Empire State said that because all of my courses are online, that I can "cross register at most colleges within New York State." He also said that the process may be a tad easier if I decide to cross register at a SUNY school. Because I have too many credits to transfer anywhere now, I was going to cross register at a SUNY school away from home to SUNY Buffalo and get some sort of off-campus housing. I figured with this, I can have at least some sliver of the college experience and be able to interact with other students (maybe go to a few parties). If you're wondering why this is so important to me, it's because I've seen my older brother go way to college and he has grown so much as a person being away from our toxic home. He was telling before that I should experience it. And honestly, without him telling me, I've always wanted to experience it to. I'm currently 20 years old and I feel like this is my last chance to do this. Money isn't an issue anymore and I want to have a "normal" college experience. Anyways, has anyone done anything remotely similar to this? What has been your experience? And do you have any advice?
