Starting off in a university transfer?

I am currently a senior in High school and I know this might be stupid but I believe getting a change of scenery for atleast one year would help me focus my life much better than it would at a community college, However, the colleges I want to spend my freshmen year at I do not intend to graduate at. I intend to go to a community college my sophomore year. I know its a waste of money I know. My question is? Will I be able to do that and how far will I be behind if I go to say San Diego State or a Private Institution for a year or two and transfer from a Community or stay there and transfer. . My dream school is either Cal, UCLA, or a private ivy/institution such as NYU which I could not afford to attend for all four years of my education. Please Help!

Im planning to transfer to university of texas austin this fall. I met all the requirements like gpa, 2recommentdation letter, and quite impressive career. But I just checked the transfer checklist. And it says "Ineligible at other institutions. An applicant who is ineligible to continue at a previous institution for academic or disciplinary reasons is not eligible for admission to the University. There is no probationary or provisional admission for transfer applicants." I was on academic probation once but it wasnt suspension. Would this record be a problem? And do they check high school grades for transfer admission? Btw im applying for advertising major. Around what gpa do they consider for advertising major? Any reply would be appriciated?

DISCLAIMER: THE SCHOOLS I AM LISTING HERE THAT I WANT TO APPLY TO ARE MY REACH SCHOOLS. I already have a list of safe schools. I do have some questions, though for some of the schools I am thinking about. For instance should I retake the SAT, for example? I will list my stats below. I am wondering if doing that will make me a better candidate. HS GPA: 3.14/4 UW. APs: 4, Psychology Class Rank: Not sure... bottom half but did not put on transcript. SAT (Old Version): 630 M, 640 V, 660 W. ECs: Rowed for four years, did ~50 hours of volunteer work. Wrote for my school newspaper senior year. Really that's about it. College GPA: First semester, 3.65. Rank 170/578 (not sure if this matters with 1 semester). Finishing up second, should have similar marks. Majors: Psych/Jewish Studies (not every school offers second as major). ECs: More volunteer work done during breaks, part of my college's EMS. ~15-30 hours every month. Also, I am doing psychology research with a professor, should be speaking during Psych Day. Recs: Coming from Psych professor and Jewish Studies professor. Expecting psych to be ~6.5/10, hopefully JST ~8+/10. College Currently Attending: Muhlenberg College. Reach schools on my list: UNC, UVA, Mich, William and Mary, NYU, Wash U, Vanderbilt, Tufts, Northeastern, Colgate, Hamilton, Davidson, U Richmond, UT Austin, Pitzer, Rice, USC, Boston U, Brandeis. Based on everything stated, should I retake the SAT? Could someone also enlighten me on what role they play for transfers? Yes, I know they can differentiate similar applicants, but aren't test scores primarily sued to predict college GPA? In addition, should I spend as many semesters at my current college before applying, in attempt to strengthen my record?

Should I transfer?

Hi all, I posted on here a while back about transferring to a different uni, but now, I'm not so sure anymore. In some ways, I do want to transfer. I don't really like the people here, and many are so against my own political views I find that I'm cast off as an outsider because they see my views as stupid and immoral, and I, theirs. In addition to that, I'm a commuter (trying to save money), so it's more difficult to meet people and feel like I'm a part of the community. I do feel like I'm missing out on the "college experience", which is one of my main regrets. I'm tired of having to drive to school every day and making the 1/2 hour commute, and on top of that, I don't really like Southern California which makes me want to move away even more. The major I am currently studying (environmental science) doesn't have many people in the program, though its overall ranking is not too bad (~#30 in the West). There aren't that many ES classes, but the ones they do have are interesting. The university isn't that highly ranked, either. On the pro side, I absolutely LOVE all of my professors. They are some of the smartest, most caring people I have ever met. Within a week, all of them knew my name and would greet me when they saw me. In the few clubs I am involved in, I love going to meetings and getting involved, and the few friends I have found I truly enjoy spending time with. My GPA is respectable (3.82) and I'm probably going to get a 3.7 or 3.8 again this semester. Also, I'm only spending about 11k in tuition and books at a private university, which is definitely a plus. I like the small class sizes (the biggest class I've had has been 40 people in my gen bio lecture), and this is a plus for me as I don't like huge classes. I've been able to get a pretty good job where I work with some of the most important people on campus, and I'll have some more possible opportunities in the future (I'm running for the board in one of my clubs, and I may be having an integral part in the on campus garden). So, basically my main beef is with the students and my commute, though I love my profs and classes. I just don't know if I should waste all this money on applying to other schools if I won't be able to find one as inexpensive as the one I'm currently at (money is a huge factor for me) and risk all the opportunities I've had over the past few months and will have in the future. At the same time, I don't want to regret never applying in the first place. I'm really at a crossroads here and would love some input from the community!

Chance Me Plz?

Hey there guys! I know now is not an usual time, for a Fall 2016 transfer applicant, to ask about chance. However, I just cannot stop feeling nervous. Please hit me with whatever come to mind as you read my stats, as long as your thoughts are rational and justifiable. Ethnicity: Asian (international student) Gender: female Standardized test scores: SAT 2180 (CR720, MA790, WR670) SAT Subject (MA II 770, Chem 750) TOEFL 103 (R28, L27, S26, W22) High school GPA: around 3.6-3.7, I am not sure--we had a different system Current school: UIUC Current year: freshman (Class of 2019) Major: psychology College GPA: First semester-3.85 over 17 credit hours (1 for research experience and 16 GPA hours for one 100 level psychology course, honor; one 100 level economics course; one 100 level chemistry course, honor; one writing course; one first year seminar, honor) dean's list & honor program Second semester-3.93 over 16 credit hours (1 for research experience and 15 GPA hours for three 200 level psychology courses, one 200 level animal science course, and one 100 level classical civilization course) as shown on the mid-year report (one A- in animal science and other four were all As) ECs: pretty ordinary-one leadership (2-year student government in high school), two research assistantships (in both high school and college, each for a year), several volunteer services (in both high school and college), two internships (in high school), and one club (environment sustainability type, in college) Recommendation letters: from my advisor (psychology dept. head advisor) and my writing professor. I did not ask to read their letters, but since they both agreed to write me one easily and paid attention to "how did everything go", I'd guess 8/10. Essays: overall 7.5/10; with PS 8, Vanderbilt 7.5, Wellesley 7.5, Tufts 7.5, and Notre Dame 7. Financial Aid: did not apply (may appeal after enrollment if my family's financial situation goes downhill) I have already been admitted to Vanderbilt, whom I need to reply and pay the non-refundable matriculation fee to by 4/29. I am not that rich so I wish I could save the 400 dollars if I can be sure I won't attend. I wonder what my chances are for rest of the schools--if slim, I should pay the fee and apply for housing as soon as possible. I apologize if my writing is bad and thanks you guys in advance!

Still Getting Emails from Old College - Who Should I Contact?

I transferred from Rutgers University last year to a new school, but I am still getting emails from my.Rutgers and Sakai. I can also still log in to my.Rutgers and Sakai. Does the school think I'm still an active student? I really do not think I missed anything during the transfer process, and they should know I withdrew. I think they just forgot to shut down the account. Does anyone know who I should contact about the my.Rutgers account? Thank you.

Is Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society useful to join?

I'm a second year community college student planning to transfer to a Cal State (possibly Cal Poly Pomona) in Fall 2017. I received an email about a club called Phi Theta Kappa Honor Society. Basically you have to have 12 units completed, a 3.5 GPA, and pay a $75 fee. I probably won't be applying to any leadership positions and will just be a regular member. But, I am interested in the scholarship opportunities I receive when I am accepted into the club. Do you really get a lot of scholarship opportunities when you join the society? Is it worth it to pay the $75 fee if I might not be very active in the club? Does anyone know if Cal Poly Pomona would give any scholarships to those who were Phi Theta Kappa members?

I have sent out four other applications, including one to my dream school, Cornell Hotel School, whose known not to send out decisions until mid-May or even later (in the third week). Does anyone have any advice on what to do in this situation?

Still possible to transfer if you really messed up during freshman year?

Doing good: In high school I was a straight A student in honors courses and got ahead with some AP credit. Downward turn: sem1 of year1: 1A, 2B's, 1C, 1F, 1W sem2 of year1: 1B, 4F's Recovery: I took 3 summer courses and got A's in all of them, but they were at a community college, so it didn't count toward GPA. sem1 of year 2: 5A's sem2 of year2: 5A's (I'm finishing sophomore year right now, but I'm confident this will be my grades) Assuming I keep my trend of being a straight-A student (with maybe 1 B), what are my chances of transferring to UT Austin as a CS major? I plan on applying to transfer early Junior year. If I have ruined my chances to transfer, do I still have decent odds at even getting a job after graduation? My poor first-year grades concern me, but I'm too stubborn to give up. Also, I participate in band, volunteer, and participate in a club on campus.

Okay so I am in my first year at a comm. college (2-years) however I am double majoring with Biology and Chemistry so i will be here for possibly 4-5 semesters rather than 4, it just depends on how my schedule is set up. I think I know what college I want to transfer to but I won't be going there until probably FA/17 or SP/18; so how long should I wait to apply?

I just got accepted to UA. I know it says that traditionally transfer students stay in Alumni Quad, but that's downtown. Do they put aside some rooms for transfer students on the main campus like in Colonial or Dutch? Or Is Alumni the only housing for transfers? Thank you!

I am at the end of my freshman year and feel that I don't want to complete my degree at my current school... if you transferred as a junior what has your experience been like and what did you do to increase your chances of admission as a sophomore?

Looking to transfer to a different university after flunking out of my current one. Is it likely?

Currently, I'm a Junior studying industrial engineering(taking sophomore level courses in that) with the initial intent of transferring into biomedical engineering. I've always had anxiety issues, but this year, it hit a peak. I was in intense emotional pain for a good portion of the academic year so far, to the extent that just going to class triggered anxiety attacks. In that condition, even going to class is useless. This is my first year at my new school, I transferred in with a GPA of 3.55 on 60 credit hours(all A's in Calc 1-3, A in physics, B in chem, A's in just about everything else) from a well-known engineering-focused university and took classes at a community college here before transferring into the university. I received a 3.5 at the community college. My first semester of this year was by far the most painful period of my life, and without going into detail, I dropped 3 classes and received an F in 1, subsequently I was put on academic probation. This semester, I'm taking two courses, and will likely fail the 4 credit one with and F(for a ridiculous reason, but the fact remains), and a 3 credit one with a D. Now, I'm at the end of the line, or so it feels. I'm certainly getting booted out of here, but I'm still planning on taking classes at the community colleges to receive a computer sciences associates degree by next summer(the community college ranks fairly high, and the plan is to work full-time next year and take 3-4 courses during the semester). I've been getting my **** together little by little, and although I still have anxiety attacks every now and again, it's nothing I can't manage. I know myself well enough now to know my habits and how to tweak them. I'm confident that I am ready to get my academic career back on track, but the prospects of my old university and college taking me back are slim. So now, I want to transfer into a university that's around the same academic-wise, but it's somewhat more selective. My goal still remains biomedical engineering and upon the end of the next academic year, I plan on traveling down to the university I want to attend and putting a face and a voice to my performance in my current university. Assuming the next 2 semesters will go well, what should my course of action be? Is my plan plausible? Thank you!

Community College and Transfer!? halp pls

Hey, I am a high school junior in California. My grades thus far aren't anything to admire. I do take and have aced both AP Language and AP U.S History and expect to do well on my AP tests. I took the SAT in March. My freshman and sophomore GPA range between 2.3-2.9 and my junior G.P.A is 3.5. So I am looking into not applying to any state universities because I hope to attend a community college and transfer to a U.C or a private institution such as Notre Dame. I know I am capable of attaining stellar grades in a collegiate environment, however with my current GPA I'm afraid I won't be considered at any high tier universities. So I have a few inquiries: Should I go out of my way and attend a CC such as De Anza which is known for having many students transfer to Berkeley or UCLA or attend my local junior college(Santa Rosa Junior College). Does it make a difference if in both schools I maintain a 3.8-4.0 GPA? I know U.C's give priority to community college transfers over transfers from State Schools or even other U.Cs. What about private institutions? Statistically, it is almost impossible to transfer from a CC(or any college in general) to an Ivy, particularly pertaining to the ones I would like to attend, Harvard, Wharton, or Dartmouth. Also, I know four years want your high school transcript as well as your college transcript; what do they look for in your high school transcript and what of it do they take the most into account in terms of your admission into said university? For example, I have a rigorous senior schedule next year (AP Calc, AP Physics, AP Lit, AP Gov), and given that I do exceedingly well in those courses, how much would that be taken into account by prospective universities? As of now, I have mediocre extracurriculars (volunteering 2 summers, varsity baseball) and no excuse but laziness and lack of self-application for my terrible G.P.A. And if it means anything, I would like to major in Business Administration. I know it's early, but any advice would be greatly appreciated!

Taking courses for your major

Hello. I am going to be a sophomore at Emory in the 2016-2017 school year, and I plan on transferring for my junior year. I am an applied math major, and that program is not that good here considering Emory's reputation as a very good school. I already have the pre-reqs for the math major at all the schools I want to transfer to. I was wondering if it looks bad to take a lot of courses for my major at the school I plan to transfer out of due to my dislike for the program.

Transferring from Air Force Academy to a UC

Hey all, I'm currently enrolled at the United States Air Force Academy as a 4th class cadet (Freshman). Sadly things are not working out for me here in terms of physical requirements and academics. Considering that Service Academies are held in such a high regard, would how successful would I be if it attempted to transfer to a UC (preferably Irvine)? Meeting all three requirements as a cadet (physical, military, and academic) is difficult for all, but for me it is exceedingly difficult. I realize that the service academies are not for everyone; and I am thinking that I may be fitting into that category. Any input or response would be helpful.
