Santa Cruz vs Berkeley?

Has anyone in the history of the world ever chosen UC Santa Cruz over UC Berkeley? People are going to think it's insane but after touring both campuses I feel like Cal is so snobby and elitist. But if I got into both would it be insane to turn down Cal for UCSC?

Transfer questions

Hello everyone! I'm kind of new to this whole website and transferring so I apologize for any questions I have that may seem a bit redundant. Okay so recently I've been accepted into UCI as a transfer student and I have some questions about attending the school. Once I submit my SIR for UCI, do I have to check out of the current community college I'm attending to attend UCI? Or can I just not enroll in my community college the following semester and just attend UCI, if that makes sense? I tried scheduling an appointment to talk to a counselor at my community college but the appointments usually do not fit with my schedule so I decided to ask on this website. I also looked around my current school's website to see if there was anything about checking out of the school but I did not see anything, so I assume I just do not have to enroll in my community college again and can attend UCI. Sorry again, it's my first time transferring so I'm a bit confused. Thank you to anyone who helps!

TRANSFER CHANCES (ONLY DC SCHOOLS)

Hey everyone, I was in a 6 year pharmacy program at University of Rhode Island, bunch of things happened, switched my majors to economics, and everything turned out that only schools that I will be willing to attend are schools in DC and around. HS specs(Doesn't count because I have over 30 college credits, but for curiosity sakes): SAT: 2070 GPA: 4.2 weighted, 3.5~3.6 unweighted? ECs (I wasn't very active in college, so I will be using my HS ECs): -President and founder of a Cultural Club -President's Volunteer Service Award (Gold level) -3rd Degree black belt -2 internships (one at a pharmacy, other at a dentistry) -Library Volunteer -Community service hours rack up between 150 to 300 hours College specs: GPA: 3.79 16 credits from HS AP credits, 30 from freshman year, and will be taking 12 in 1st semester sophomore year. (46 credits when I apply) Essay: Essay on special connection to DC, related to helping the homeless + reasons for transferring (I'm a decent writer). Additionals: 2 letters of recommendation from professors that I am very close with. I will be applying to the following schools for spring 2017 as an BS in Economics major, transferring sophomore 1. George Washington University 2. American University 3. Loyola University Maryland Also, are spring transfers for these schools less competitive for these schools? Thanks everyone

Transfer to Notre Dame?

I have been declined from my dream school - Notre Dame. I have been accepted to Clemson and Miami University (Ohio), both architecture programs. They're both good schools, but I know that iwhen I go to either, no matter how much I may end up liking it, I'll always feel like I settled for second best. My credentials: SAT - 1300 (630 Reading, 670 math, plus 600 writing) ACT - 30 (Subscore bests- Reading 29, Writing 33, math 33, Science 34) Please don't recommend retaking this. I took ACT 4x and got 30 ALL FOUR TIMES. Sadly, I don't think my score is going anywhere, even though my subscores fluctuated like 5 pts. each... HS GPA: weighted 4.888, unweighted 3.98 (my school also has a 7-point scale, 93 is the lowest A possible) Rank - last checked tied 11th of 321 (as of first semester). I took/am taking nine AP courses ( about as many as possible at my school) and scored average (3&4) on all. I also am in a dual enrollment Psychology course which I currently have an A in. I didn't however take IB courses because of scheduling issues (if you knew my school, it is the norm). I was also in Honor society as treasurer, captain of cross country and 2x captain of track and field, Beta club I applied early restrictive action and was deferred. Just a few days ago, I was ultimately turned down much to my devastation. I plan on taking all the required credit hours to transfer, and will only get one chance (going into sophomore year) to try to get accepted as a transfer student. I am the type of person who gets upset with getting a B, so likely will have a high GPA in college. Would it be worth my time (I.e. having good chances) to apply to transfer next year?

Will transferring hurt my med school app?

Hi all, Last semester I was sexually assaulted by two men and am currently working with the university that I attend in an effort to potentially have the students who committed it suspended or expelled. Unfortunately, the experience has made attending this university almost unbearable for me, as I am forced to see both of them on campus from time to time. I've gotten through this year despite depression/anxiety/PTSD as a result of the assault, but I know that I can't continue to attend this school if I want to do well. Being here is a constant reminder of the trauma, and it is wearing me down. That being said, I am afraid that if I transfer universities, I will not get in to a university that is considered "more prestigious" than the one I am currently at, or that even if I do transfer successfully, it will hurt my medical school application (I have heard that med schools often consider transferring an effort to "erase" a mediocre gpa). My current GPA is a 3.34 (60 total credits). I'm worried that this isn't high enough to transfer into a good school, but if I'm being honest, I really made my best effort, considering the conditions. Does anyone have any insight regarding this? Would it be better to complete another year at my current university to give myself an opportunity to improve my GPA, and then transfer at the end of my junior year? Should I just "tough it out" and stay at my current university until I graduate? Thanks in advance for any help. P.S. Schools that I am currently looking into are the University of San Francisco, the University of North Carolina, and Boston University. If anyone has additional comments on any of these, feel free to share as well!

Has anyone received a transfer decision from UT-Austin?

Hey all, I was wondering if anyone has received their decision from the University of Texas-Austin regarding their transfer application? I feel like it's getting a little late in the game. My brother applied as a freshman and he knew in February. Any clue when decisions for transfer students should go out? Thanks & God bless!

Does a 'W' count as a grade or is it a change in my schedule?

I have already applied to UCI, UCSD, CPP. I got into CPP but I'm still waiting to hear back from UCI and UCSD. I am taking a linear algebra/differential equations class currently but I am not doing so well in it (personal problems tbh) so I want to drop it. The math class is split into two sections at my school and I looked on assist.org and all the colleges I applied to say the "other half" is needed to transfer as one linear algebra class there. So essentially, I would just have to take the class again at a university since it is split into two classes at my jc for some reason. Btw, I am a computer science major, so I really only need linear algebra anyways, I think. Is it a terrible idea to drop it and receive a W? Is that equivalent to getting a grade in the class or should I contact the schools about a change in my class schedule?

Transfer from Ohio University to Ohio State

Hello, I'm currently a freshman at Ohio University. When I first applied for college I did not get accepted into Ohio State. This came as no surprise to me but it was disappointing nonetheless. My GPA throughout my first couple years of high school was horrendous due to my own lack of discipline and maturity. I managed to raise it a bit junior and senior year but the damage had been done. I got a 30 on my ACT without studying for it. One of my biggest regrets is actually not doing any preparation for the test and no taking it seriously because I feel like I could have achieved an even better score if I put any work in. Ohio State was my first choice but clearly that didn't work out and I ended up going here. I still wish to go there but I've been stressing out over the transfer application greatly. I did well my first semester and earned a 3.7 GPA. I have kept up that production through this semester as well and might even get a 4.0 this time. However, here is where the probem lies: I am still undecided on my major. I feel like I've grown a lot as a person, but I still haven't decided what I want to be. I want to go to Ohio State because I love it there. I love the city, the atmosphere, the pride of the students, and I feel like there are countless opportunities for me there. What I'm trying to get at is that I don't know how to go about my personal statement for my transfer application. Obviously I don't want you to write it for me, but I'm just concerned about how much my undecided status currently is going to hurt me. I feel like OSU is where I can find my place, but I don't want to sound directionless on the application. Basically I'm just ranting at this point but maybe all I need is for you guys to calm me down about this situation.

Hi guys! I think we're all wondering how many semi-finalists there are out there, and what we're up against. If you received a semi-finalists email, let us know on this forum! And if you're really brave, throw out some information about yourself. I got the semi-finalist email March 8. Community College: California GPA: 4.0 Parent's Income: $80,000 a year (this part might've killed my chances?) Lots of volunteer, leadership, and awards. Best of luck to everyone! :)

Chance Me

During my first two years of high school I didn't work as hard as I should have but I have since got my act together and I have had two semesters with a 4.0 gpa. But since it's to late I'm not able to go to any of my top choice schools and have to go to a local public university. There's nothing wrong with the university except I feel it doesn't have a strong pre-med program or strong academics that will prepare me for the rigors of Medical School. So my question is, what schools should I apply to, when should I apply to maximize my chances of admission, and what grades and class should I take in college. H.S Stats 2.7 G.P.A 31 ACT 4/5 ECs

I have gotten accepted into SDSU and Cal Poly SLO, but now will receive either a D, F or W...

Okay so I'll start off with a little back story. I completed my first year of college at The University of Nebraska-Lincoln, and am now a student at San Diego Mesa College. I applied to a couple school for Fall 2016, even though I had a couple pre-reqs after this semester left, just to see if I could get it. So far I have been accepted into Sac State, SDSU and Cal Poly SLO. I am waiting on a couple of UCs. I am now in the position where I am not doing too well in Human Anatomy. It is 99.9% certain that I will receive a D, but more likely an F. I just completely underestimated the class, took on too much (20 credit hours), and had some personal stuff happen. I have strongly considered dropping and receiving a W because this at least will not effect my GPA. I have held on for as long as I can, but am now at the point where I can't really bounce back because the grade in the class is only based off of 10 tests, no extra credit, nothing is dropped and nothing is curved. I am worried that this is going to impact my acceptances to these schools. I am most interested in SDSU, because I live here, but Cal Poly is an awesome school. My major is Foods and Nutrition at SDSU and Nutrition at Cal Poly. The schools both have a C minimum requirement, so no matter what now my application is going to be evaluated. Does anyone have any advice that has either been in this position, knows someone who has or has experience? I am thinking withdrawing is the best way to go so at least I keep my GPA, but am seeking any advice. Also, I have considering sending in some sort of letter to admissions to explain my reasoning for what happened, will something like that help? Thanks for any and all advice/opinions!

CCC to CSU to DQ. Now what?

Pretty much the tittle says it all. For boring reasons I got disqualified from SJSU, and frankly I don't know what to do next? I transferred from a CC to SJSU, thought everything was going to be fine, but life happened. I tried talking to a counselor about my options, but he's always out or busy, and can not make appointments. At CC, I took and passed all my math classes with B's or higher(except for linear Algebra). Got into SJSU as computer engineering major, but in the end I realized it wasn't for me. I was always 50/50 on teaching and engineering, and in the end teaching is my call. I can retake my engineering courses through Open Campus to bump up my GPA, but it's expensive and I don't want to take anymore engineering courses. I have only taken linear algebra, discrete mathematics, and a modern geometries course as i tried to attain my BA in Mathematics w/ an emphasis in teaching. Passed 2 of them, but failed modern geometries due to my ignorance of not talking to a counselor. I didn't know there was a pre-recommended(not a pre-req) course before that class. This is the class, plus engineering courses from my second semester that took me down. Now, I'm working full time feeling down and out and I just need advice on what to do next. Thank you for your time and help. P.S If you want details on why I did so bad at SJSU please let me know. Don't assume I did not try or that I am lazy.

university of texas austin transfer requirements.

Im planning to transfer to university of texas austin this fall. I met all the requirements like gpa, 2recommentdation letter, and quite impressive career. But I just checked the transfer checklist. And it says "Ineligible at other institutions. An applicant who is ineligible to continue at a previous institution for academic or disciplinary reasons is not eligible for admission to the University. There is no probationary or provisional admission for transfer applicants." I was on academic probation once but it wasnt suspension. Would this record be a problem? And do they check high school grades for transfer admission? Btw im applying for advertising major. Around what gpa do they consider for advertising major? Any reply would be appriciated?

Transferring with non-transferable F

I am currently attending is State school in California and am trying to transfer out of state and I think I will end up failing one of my classes this semester. The thing is though is that this class does not transfer to the school I'm trying to transfer too. So, I know that it will not have an effect on my GPA when I transfer, but will it still be seen on my transcript and will the school possibly not accept me for it? The rest of my grades are good, especially my transferable ones. Thanks for any help!

Transfer: Cornell/Brown/Georgetown/Tufts/NYU

I goto a small technology school in New Jersey called Stevens Inst. of Tech. I love Stevens, but its curriculum is too narrow and has little or no courses apart from engineering or sciences. That's my reason to transfer to schools that offer a wide variety of disciplines. I cannot imagine myself being here for 3 more years pursuing only computer science courses. It is already driving me crazy. I would like to pursue the kind of major which combines Computer Science and Business aspects - Management Information Systems. Stevens has Business & Technology major, however, it is not an accredited business program yet, and it offers very little number of courses other than the ones strictly geared towards Information Systems. For I also have personal interests in Finance, I don't mind changing my major completely to Finance. Anyway, I am considering the following schools: 1. Cornell University - College of Arts & Sciences 2. Brown University - College 3. Georgetown University - McDonough School of Business 4. Tufts University - School of Arts & Sciences 5. New York University - Neonard N. Stern School of Business 6. Boston College - Carroll School of Management Please tell me if the above list of schools are reachable: I have: SATI Math - 680 Verbal - 620 SATII Writing - 660 Math 1 C - 720 College GPA - 3.68 HS GPA - B Based on just numbers...which schools among the above list of schools are either "slim chance" or "possible". And I would appreciate if anyone of you guys recommend me some good schools for me. thanks
