Common App Transfer Essay
So I've already began preparing to transfer in a year when I just found out that there is a transfer-specific essay for the common app. I already wrote a great essay with the prompt about an event that marked my transition into adulthood, but will I even be able to use it? Do I still have a choice for an essay topic, because it seems strange for me to write an essay why I want to transfer when the reasons are different for every institution.

Transfer from BU
I am a freshman Engineering Student at Boston University. I plan to transfer after my sophomore year (Fall 2017). My GPA right now is 3.96 (prolly gonna drop to 3.6-3.7 after this Spring. I wanna transfer to a better engineering school, because BU's Computer Engineering program doesn't provide enough opportunities, since it only focuses on its renowned Biomedical program.

Transfer applicant advice
Hi Guys... so I go to community college in California and I am planning to transfer to UCB in the next fall. I am full time student but I also have part time job as a server. However I m worried that I do not have enough extra curricular activity ( I mean I kinda don't besides my job). I was wondering if I should be worrying about joining any club or doing internship. I have looked some internship over the internet but I could barely find one for community college students. Do the admissions actually care about outside of school activity when you are transfer student. Any advice on these matter would be great. By the way I am Business Administration major and this is only my second semester at the college.

University of Washington transfer advice from parent
It's March, and the U of Washington-Seattle will start sending out its acceptance letters. If you forgo the University of Washington and choose another 4-year university, please know that it is VERY, VERY difficult to transfer into the University of Washington from another 4-year institution. My daughter was accepted, went to another university, and tried to get back into UW. When she applied again to the University of Washington -- this time as a transfer student from another college -- she had high grades, deans-list standing, and was a member of the university's Honors College. We thought it would be ok -- after all, she had already been accepted once as a high school senior. But because she was now a transfer student, her high school acceptance didn't count. She was rejected. University of Washington prioritizes community and technical college students who have a 2-year transfer AA degree. (If you have less than a two-year degree from a community or technical college, your changes are also very slim.) My daughter spent her first year of college at the first university, transferred to a community college, got her AA degree, and was only then able to get into UW-Seattle (UW-Tacoma and UW-Bothell are not as tough on transfer students...your chances are high to transfer to those two branch campuses). Don't assume that if you don't like the school you chose that you can transfer to UW-Seattle. We learned this the hard way, so I want to spare others.

Getting a "W" in class not needed for admission
Hello all!
I recently got the news that UCLA denied me acceptance so now i am taking Calculus 2 for no reason since the school i already got accepted into to does not require it. My question is if i drop the class with a "W" will it hurt my chances of being admitted since my admission is still considered "provisional"?
Thank You!

Transfer once..then transfer back? A re-admit or re-applicant?
So I just finished my second semester of college at a good LAC I transferred into from a very well ranked liberal arts school.. I am having qualms about my move. I though this change would be more comfortable and less challenging, and only now am I starting to think that I am doing myself a discerning by going to the "easier" school. I miss the school, but the old school also has the degree that I am going for now that i've had some experience in college to decide. Also, this school has the graduate program I would also like to follow up with.
So if any one knows, is this situation me transferring back or me registering as a re-admit?
Thank you and I apologize for any confusion

If I transfer it would only be transferred half of my credits?
This is something that I'm thinking about and don't get to understand. I study in Spain and if I want to transfer by the end of my first or second year, how would they take my credits? Because my course ends by May and I gotta apply by January for most of the colleges.
Then, by January, I'd only have half of my credits as much, so, do I have to apply and send them only half of my credits? Will they evaluate these? Will they take all of them if I get accepted by the end of the course?
I don't understand how this works.

Does the college you go to affect your transfer chances?
Does the prestige of the college itself have an effect on my chances to transfer to school and if so which school would give me the best chance of transferring to a top school NYU stern or Ohio State

Transferring from a private 4 year to ucla or usc
I am a high school senior who is planning on going to a private university for 2 years on a scholarship and then transferring. I have heard that it would would be more difficult to transfer from a private school to ucla or other ucs rather than from public to public. Would it be impossible to transfer from a private school to a uc or just very difficult?

Can my admission be rescinded?
I was recently admitted to Santa Clara University as a transfer for mechanical engineering. I know I need to keep my grades up, otherwise my admission could be withdrawn. However, I am currently doing poorly in Differential Equations, so I was planning to withdraw from the class before the deadline (This Tuesday). I figured I would just take it again next semester (Or quarter, now), since I am already ahead of schedule math classes (I tested out of Calc AB).
If I withdraw from the class, will SCU rescind my admission? Or will I be able to just retake it there, since it won't affect my graduation date.
Thanks

Unhappy at college
Over the past few months, I have grown increasingly unhappy with my college for social reasons...the overall mentality of the student body is very different from mine and I can not envision myself spending the next 3 years here. I'm afraid to talk to my parents about it because they think that I am doing so well when in reality I'm so unhappy. Is it weird to transfer somewhere as a second semester sophomore? Or do I stick it out one more year?

Is there possibly an error?
As of yesterday I have been rejected from UCSB, UCLA, and UCSD. I also applied to Berkeley, but I'm not holding my breath anymore.
I'm a California native and CA community college student of Hispanic descent. My cumulative GPA is 3.93 (one B in a class unnecessary for admission, otherwise As) and my GPA as a Philosophy major is 4.0. I put down Religious Studies as my alternate, but I plan on double-majoring in it anyway.
In terms of my ECs, I am a group instructor for a symbolic logic class of 100+ students at my CC, TA for my department chair, have received a merit scholarship for a philosophical research paper, and I've participated in my college's Philosophy Club since it started up last year. I've also tutored my nephew with learning disabilities in English/mathematics for the past few years. (Also, my brother was a Bruin, but there wasn't really a place for that in the application.)
My personal statements essentially centered around my love for philosophy and interest in studying it at the graduate level, as well as being a first-generation college student and aspiring professor, etc. I had an amazing time with both prompts.
My reason for creating this thread is that after reviewing my UC application recently, there was a message that I had 58 of the 60 required units to enter as a Junior. However, I reported AP credit, and that wasn't included in the count; I actually have 61 units. I'm also in the process of completing my IGETC math and science stuff this semester, but I have all As as of my most recent mid-term report, and I'm not sure that merits unanimous rejection.
Should I appeal? Is it possible that my application was overlooked due to this? I've worked extremely hard and I'm so crushed. :/
Thanks in advance to anyone who can yield his/her opinion, and congratulations to those who have been admitted. :x

Transferring to Stanford
Hi everyone!
I'm a first year sophomore at my local Community College. In high school, academically, I was just a little above average. Although I took almost every AP offered, I usually performed about average in these classes. Because of this, I never received any 5s. But I'm focused now. At my CC I'm regularly finishing number 1 in my courses. I'm currently sprinting through my second semester, as a president of a decently sized club and as an active member in my community. A kid my age in one of my poli sci classes has been talking about transferring to Stanford for a while. I never really considered it as an option, but the more he talks about it, the more realistic it sounds. I was wondering if I should even bother applying to Stanford as a transfer?
HIGH SCHOOL
GPA:
2.9 uw, 3.6 w. (my Freshman year of HS, I almost flunked out. I was getting mostly As by my Sophomore year).
SAT:
1650 (OH I know. I'll definitley retake it).
AP:
United States History: 4
English Language: 3
United States Government: 4
Macroeconomics: 4
Environmental Science: 3 (self-studied)
Psychology: 4
Physics 1: 3
Statistics: 4
Chemistry: 1
Human Geography: 2
COMMUNITY COLLEGE
Fall 2015 (15):
A: International Relations
A: United States Government and Politics
A: English 1C: Critical Thinking and Composition
A: Western Civilization 1
A: Introduction to Theater
Spring 2016 (18.5):
Comparative Politics
Social & Political Philosophy
Introduction to Logic
Elementary Spanish 1
Biological Anthropology
Improvisational Comedy
Extra Curricular Activities:
Last semester, I took notes for students w/disabilities.
President of a Political Science/Current Affairs club.
Was the head of the writing department at my summer camp. I led 4 creative writing activity blocks every day for three months.
I'm in my local Cal-State's fraternity.
Debate Team.
This summer, I'll be in Israel for three weeks; hopefully spend six weeks in Washington DC in an internship my Government prof. recommended me for; I'll be in the Amazon for two weeks, doing some research on the ecology; and hopefully, I'll be at Burning Man (lol).
I also applied to UCLA, Berkeley, UCSD, and UCSB because with my AP units, I'm a sophomore. It's common for first-year sophomore applicants with high GPAs to be accepted into these schools. It's looking good for me.
If next year I'm at UCLA, got a 4.0 in all of my CC classes, have the extra curriculars that I'm doing this summer, and am performing well at LA (As/A-s), should I apply to Stanford? Would they even look at me? Considering that I'll technically be a "Junior" (even though I'll only be a second year?).

FIU to transferring to UF/FSU Jr. year
I'm entering FIU as a junior this fall with a 3.5 gpa and I'm wondering if its possible for me to transfer out of FIU to UF/FSU after my junior year. The reason why I cant transfer to UF/FSU right away is due to financial problems.
I would really appreciate the help! :)

Transferring back to original college (UMD-->AU)
Hello all,
So I transferred to the University of Maryland, College Park this semester after attending American University for three semesters. While at AU, I was majoring in CLEG (Comm, Law, Econ, Gov), which is an Interdisciplinary Studies major that AU offers and was the main reason I applied to AU early decision in the first place (I'm extremely interested in all four of those fields). My second semester, though, I took an astronomy course and fell in love with it. I had always loved astronomy so this class was by far the best class I had taken at AU. I loved it so much I looked into transferring to UMD to major in physics and astronomy, which I did. Other reasons I transferred to UMD include: 1) Much cheaper (tuition is $10k/year vs $40k/year at AU), 2) Higher rankings in STEM fields, and 3) Still close enough to DC to go downtown whenever.
This semester, though, has been the worst semester of my college career. My grades are struggling (my GPA is going to go from a 3.77 at AU to sub 3.00 at UMD even though I'm only taking 2 courses related to my major), I tried to make friends by joining a few clubs but it hasn't worked, I don't like the town UMD is in at all qnd it's certainly not as safe as the area AU is in, I miss the smaller campus setting and sense of community that AU has, and the people at UMD just aren't as nice as the people at AU. I've hated it so much here this semester that I'm considering transferring back to AU to continue in my original major. I know I would be happy continuing in my original major; I didn't transfer because I wasn't happy, it's just that UMD has the program I thought I would love. Also, I had to sacrifice a year abroad in New Zealand to come to UMD so thinking about that is just making me even more depressed. Lastly, I was never a strong math student in high school, and while I did fine in the astronomy and physics courses I took at AU, I just don't think I'm cut out for a STEM major. I certainly did much better as a CLEG student.
In short, I thought UMD would be so much better for me than AU, having compared it side-by-side to AU on paper, but these past three months have been the worst months of my life and I just don't know what to do anymore.
