Hello, I am now a senior in high school. So far, I got accepted to several engineering schools, such as Purdue, VT, OSU, and Penn State. Unfortunately, I got rejected from UIUC's engineering and had an alternate major(undecided). At this point, I am pretty depressed. I know lots of positive things from Purdue, but I believe its engineering is not as good as that of UIUC. Since I am an international student who also think about going back to my home country, college's reputation and rankings are important.
I have applied and got accepted to several LACs that offer 3-2 Combined Plan with WUSTL and Columbia. If you are in the program, you can pretty much study in Columbia after finishing 3 years in LACs with the minimum GPA of 3.3. You end up getting 2 degrees as well: BA from LACs and BS from Columbia or WUSTL.
Columbia is an ivy league schoool that I can't even apply with my HS stats. Furthurmore, getting a degree from Columbia might help me get into some prestigious law schools in US or back in my country(I am not sure whether I will be a straight engineer or not).
However, I have heard some cons about the program. many in my country say there is a huge discrimination for transfer students even though they went to IVYs. Their words are actually pointless because they are maintaining without a convincing proof or stats. I know there must be the lacking integration with students who were in Columbia since freshman year. Internships and research opportunities are possibly limited for transfer students as well.
In all respects, do you guys think Combined Plan is worth it enough to miss an opportunity to study in moderately great engineering schools for 4 years??

Community College transfer to 4-year school? What GPA is needed?
Hello. I'm currently enrolled in community college and am planning to transfer after earning my associates in mechanical engineering. As of now, I have a 3.9 GPA but I'm relatively certain this will drop by at least .2 points by the time I want to apply. I have a 2080 on the SAT but I'm taking it again in June. I plan to study for the SAT for a couple weeks after the semester is over even though I realize that this isn't the biggest factor in transfer admissions. My high school transcript could be quite bad. I had a 3.8 at the end of junior year, but senior year was awful and I didn't even care to check my grades at the time so I don't know what I ended up with. I'm guessing that I graduated HS with something around a 3.0.
The University of Maryland College Park recommends that you have a 3.0 if you want to apply for transfer. My feeling is that a 3.2 will give you a reasonable chance based on the small amount of evidence that I have accumulated. I would not like to go to UMD or UMBC but either of those schools are where I plan to go if I can't get in anywhere else (if I even get in to these schools). I would like to be able to consider RPI, Stevens Institute of Technology, and UT Austin if those schools seem feasible. So, are these schools feasible? Also, what are my chances of getting into schools like UMD or UMBC with a 3.7 GPA?

Official USC 2016 Transfer Thread
Hey guys! I wanted to make another thread for students who plan on transferring to USC fall 2016. 2014 and 2015 thread were very helpful and contain almost the same information, but I wanted to make another just so we all can share our experiences.

Santa Cruz vs Berkeley?
Has anyone in the history of the world ever chosen UC Santa Cruz over UC Berkeley? People are going to think it's insane but after touring both campuses I feel like Cal is so snobby and elitist. But if I got into both would it be insane to turn down Cal for UCSC?
↧
What are my chances?
I have sort of a long story. I lived in upstate New York and went to an okay public high school for my freshman year, and then moved across the country and went to a slightly better public high school. After my sophomore year, I dropped out and went to Bard College at Simon's Rock, which is a small liberal arts "Early College," where most everyone is like me: dissatisfied with regular high school life.
My grades were as follows:
Eighth grade I took high school Honors courses in English, Math, Earth Science, World History, and German.
I self-taught Geometry over the summer for high school credit and aced the state exam in August.
Freshman year I had straight-As in Algebra 2/Trigonometry (Honors), AP Euro (4) Art, Biology, Concert Band (though I got into Wind Ensemble and performed an upper-level music solo at NYSSMA), English (Honors), and German 2.
Sophomore year I got straight A's in every class but AP Calculus BC, in which I had a 91 at the end of the year and got a 5 on the AP Exam. I took honors English, Chem, French 1, and German 3, Standard Art 2 (which had no Honors offering), and AP Art History (4).
My first semester in college I took
Intro to Microeconomics A
Seminar I (a required general philosophy/lit class) A-
German 204 B+
Ceramics A-
Chamber Orchestra
Jazz Ensemble
and second semester I'm taking, reported with mid-semester grades
International Trade & Finance A-
Seminar II B+
Calculus 2 A-
Intro to Biology A
German 205 B+
Chamber Orchestra
Jazz Ensemble
and an Elective about Information and Technology called "Beyond Google," which is only worth one credit
For clubs, I was in
Field Hockey (9)
Indoor Track (9)
Outdoor Track (9)
Lacrosse (10)
Soccer (FY)
I started the track team at Simon's Rock
Model UN (FY), will most likely be President or Vice President next year
Robotics strategy/scouting Team Leader (10) Mentor (FY)
AIESEC (International Internship Program) Vice President (FY)
German Club (9, 10) French Club (10) Art Club (9, 10)
Intern at Kopernik Observatory (9)
Girl Scout Bronze & Silver Awards, Gold Award Pending
Volunteer in Soup Kitchen, Food Pantry (9, 10) Church lighting and sound designer (9)
I will have an internship at the American Institute for Economics Research (AIER) next year
I helped start and am an editor of the Simon's Rock Newspaper
I have a part-time job on campus and I work summers/breaks at Barnes & Noble. This summer I will also be getting my Pilot's license.
I want to transfer for Spring or Fall '17. My top choice has long been Yale but I'm starting to consider Harvard MAYBE, do y'all think I can get in? Are there any other schools I should be looking at?

Cal Poly SLO vs UCSB Applied Math Transfer
Got into SLO for math with a concentration in applied math a while ago. Last week I got into ucsb for "Mathematical Sciences". Im looking into the requirements for both, and SLO requires about 8 more classes. Also, ucsb is offering me a $5k grant, while SLO is not giving me any money (only loans). So ucsb would be a little cheaper. Which is more prestigious and marketable for a job? Im not too big of a party person, and would be living in campus apts on both. Any advice is much appreciated!!

UC to UC fall 2015 applicant
hi all.
i'm a first year at UC Merced. GPA: 3.44. Major GPA 3.7. I'm scared my GPA will fall to a 3.1 after this semester ,which will complete my first year at UCM. I want to transfer to UCSB in fall of 2016, but I don't know what to do. Enroll at a JC, or apply from UCM. I was told it was easier to get into another UC when you're already at a UC, but i don't know. This potential 3.1 that i'll get excludes summer classes, so by the time i apply in fall, it should be a 3.2-3.3 hopefully.
Withdraw from UCM and go to a JC and TAG (assuming I get a 3.2-3.3 by the end of summer).
SOS. Please give me some advice from those who've been in this position.
Major i'll apply to is going to be something unimpacted in the humanities. PLEASE HELP. thank you!

Do high school college classes count towards transfer GPA?
Hi everyone,
I took a college class in my Junior-Senior summer in high school at the University of Vermont. I was wondering if the grade from this one class would count towards my transfer GPA, or if maybe it depends on the school you're transferring to. I sent the official transcript with my transfer application, but that college course also counted towards my high school GPA.
↧
Transfer once..then transfer back? A re-admit or re-applicant?
So I just finished my second semester of college at a good LAC I transferred into from a very well ranked liberal arts school.. I am having qualms about my move. I though this change would be more comfortable and less challenging, and only now am I starting to think that I am doing myself a discerning by going to the "easier" school. I miss the school, but the old school also has the degree that I am going for now that i've had some experience in college to decide. Also, this school has the graduate program I would also like to follow up with.
So if any one knows, is this situation me transferring back or me registering as a re-admit?
Thank you and I apologize for any confusion

Not Meeting Conditions of Admission
Hi,
I was accepted as a transfer student to the University of Florida for Political Science. One of the conditions is getting a B in Statistics. I will get a C in this class and it is too late to to drop the class.
What are my options? Could I still be accepted?

Should I transfer to SMU or Richmond?
I'm transferring from my school because I want a smaller school with a more sophisticated student body, preferably with a more standard social culture (either all greek life, or no greek life).
So I was pretty set on transferring to Southern Methodist University, it's perfect size, great location, great programs, and such a fun school. But I surprisingly just got into University of Richmond, it's a similar culture to SMU but much smaller and with less diversity. I wonder if it would be difficult to transition into the social scene there especially because there are such few transfers in comparison to at SMU.
However, Richmond is known to be better academically. Being a liberal arts school I wouldn't have as much varietal opportunites in regards to areas of study, there are more programs that appeal to me at SMU, but I'm guessing having Richmond on my resume would probably help me to get a better job and closer to home on the east coast.
My gut is telling me to go with SMU, but is it a mistake to go to a "worse" school, academically?
Would love to hear some thoughts. Thanks!

Georgetown McDonough Transfer
Is it possible you could tell me if I have a chance I could get in? I am worried I am wasting my time. I am a student at the Kogod School of Business at American University. I am majoring in Finance. I am a freshman.
My first semester ended and my GPA is a 3.87 (3 A's and 2 A-'s) . My essays are following what you told me. is it possible you could see if i have a chance?
Courses: Fall 2015
Applied Calc I: A
Business 1.0: A
Visual Literacy: A
Drawing: A-
College Writing: A-
Spring 2016
Tools of Financial Markets
College Writing Seminar
Business Statistics
Views from Global South
Financial Accounting
Global Corporate Citizenship
I have a recommendation from my business professor, who I am close to. I can ask my writing professor also.
My extra curricular activities include:
-high school investment club founder and president
- treasurer of student government for 2 years
- Financial Management Association at the university
- soon to be summer intern at the department of treasury
- I am planning on starting my own investment club at the University also next semester
- took an entrepreneurship course as a junior in high school at the University of Maryland
- treasurer of UNICEF club
- worked in retail for 4 years as a technology specialist
- getting an on-campus job next semester
- Bloomberg Certified
- top 1% portfolio in capitol hill challenge (virtual stock exchange game)
My high school stats were:
3.62GPA (UW) 4.25 (W)
SAT: 1820 (Math: 650, Reading: 610, Writing: 560).
I am worried my high school statistics will murder me. Could you give me advice on how i could get in? My reasoning for leaving kogod is: i want a better social atmosphere (one that is more intelligent) and I want to be taking a more rigorous curriculum, unlike what kogod has to offer.

NYU Tisch to Cornell, Brown, Wellesley, UNC-Chapel Hill, Davidson
Hey guys! Sophomore now but applying likely as a sophomore for next year.
Currently at NYU Tisch in the Film program and, though I'm doing well, I don't want to go into the film industry. Plus I have a lot of issues with the program and its participants and NYU as a whole, and I'd love to really LEARN about the world and not just produce projects without real guidance. Minoring in an interdisciplinary program called Science and Society and I LOVE IT. Very interested in health and society and the life sciences in general and approaching them with an interdisciplinary and creative mindset. I do a lot of research in that area in my spare time and, as I said, really love it and finally made the decision to completely switch my career path.
State: NC
Income: both parents unemployed for past 4 years
College GPA: 3.85
HS (Notheast, top ranked public school) GPA: 4.07 weighted, 5 APs, honestly didn't work to my potential in HS. the college structure suits me better.
SAT: 2150; SAT II: Bio-E 760, Math I 710, 5s on AP US AP Bio
Current courses: opical Seminar: Emerging Diseases, Calc I (took in hs but didn't take AP), History of Western Art I, The Art of Sound (film history), Pre-Production Colloquium (1 credit film)
Recs: from bio-anthro professor and editing prof, should be good, did well in both and participated and blah blah
Essays: I'm a decent/ intuitive writer so I'm pretty confident bout dat
ECs:
-- Competitive Club Ultimate Frisbee Team
-- Nationally Qualified 57kg weight class Powerlifter (strength sport kind of like olympic weightlifting)
-- Photojournalist and Writer for The Odyssey (online newspaper, cross-college); tend to produce scientifically minded pieces i.e. the physics behind the swirls of cream in your morning coffee; exercise and the brain
-- College radio host freshman year: wrote and hosted classical music show heehee
-- had an internship fall semester as a production intern at a doc production company
-- volunteer as an inner-city public school financial aid educator and mentor
Work: have to make money over the summer so work typical summer jobs = cashier, hostess, freelance photographer
kinda embarrassed to admit but my family is pretty tied in to Cornell; both grandparents went, uncle and cousins went, dad went grad school, and there's a building named after my great grandpa... I'm pretty sure.
VERY CONCERNED that the film program is going to hurt me a lot... it's very intensive and really doesn't allow for more than one course to be taken outside Tisch per semester... I've taken hard, interesting courses that I;ve gotten all As in, but only have 3 real non-film courses to show (intro to sociology, Classics & Cognitive Theory, Global Biocultures: Anthropological Perspectives on Public Health)... the rest are freshman writing, film production + craft + scriptwriting + film history courses.
chances s'il vous plait.

Retaking Classes at Different School for Transfer
I have received an F in one of my classes this year and I am trying to transfer schools. I am going to take the same class at a local community college and most likely get a much better grade. When I'm done with that class, even though it was taken at a different school, does the F from that class go away from the school I took it at the first time? Will that F stay on my transcript? And if so, will it not look bad if I make it up with a much better grade?
Thanks for the help!

Is it possible for me to transfer out of Davidson in 1/2 years?
So here's my dilemma guys. I applied for a full scholarship back in the fall and ranked my colleges respectively: Emory, Davidson, and Northwestern. I was accepted in December and matched to Davidson on a full ride. So it is a binding ED agreement. I was SUPPOSED to withdraw my applications from Emory and Northwestern, which I did but for some reason my Emory's regular decision application still went through. Usually in the Scholarship when no colleges match you, you're sent through the RD process. So I just found out today that Emory accepted me back in March, and I'm missing financial information, etc. Obviously, I had to decline because of the binding agreement to Davidson.
The problem is I live in Georgia and had my heart set on Emory since the beginning. It would be better for me financially (traveling expenses, cars, etc) and time-wise to just go to Emory. Is there any possible way of transferring out of Davidson after Freshman year?

Should I transfer from UC Riverside to UCLA?
I posted this on reddit also, but I'm always looking for more advice and input!
I'm currently a 2nd year Public Policy student in UC Riverside but I was accepted to UCLA last week under the Study of Religion major. It sounds kind of random, but here's my story:
I applied to transfer last year because I was unhappy being at UCR. I applied as a Study of Religion major because I enjoy the subject and it is currently my intended minor. I didn't apply with Psychology (my original major) because at that time, I wasn't sure if I wanted to continue majoring in it because I discovered that I did not enjoy Psychology as much as I thought I would. And I was right. I ended up changing my major to Public Policy last quarter because Public Health interests me. I didn't think much about the consequences of my major decision at the time I applied to transfer because a) I just wanted to get out of UCR really badly and b) I did not foresee I would be changing career plans. I was originally planning to go into academia but now I'm looking into healthcare management.
So it was a little reckless on my part but here I am, deciding between going to UCLA or staying at UCR. I'm still not happy in UCR. It's a good school, but I'm not compatible with the environment and don't have affinity for the school despite being heavily involved on campus. I've done my best to really make the most of what UCR can provide me with and I have some great accomplishments here. I'm the president of a nationally-recognized professional student organization and I hold some valuable volunteer positions through pipeline programs from the UCR School of Medicine. On top of that, I have pretty good grades and will probably graduate with Cum Laude or better if I stay here. I'm wondering if it's worth rebuilding my student profile at UCLA especially because they don't have my major and I can't change majors (there's a Public Affairs and Public Health minor though). I plan to attend graduate school for Healthcare Management and I'm afraid that majoring in Study of Religion is really random and that won't make me a competitive applicant to graduate programs. I've heard that your undergraduate major doesn't really matter if you take the proper prerequisites for grad school. I researched grad programs for Health Management and for the majority, there are no specific prerequisites. More emphasis is put on high GPA and GRE as well as volunteer work. But overall, I'm not sure.
What UCLA does have are a lot of public health student organizations, great resources, strong network, potential to meet new friends and a beautiful campus. On top of that, they are offering me a generous financial aid package. UCLA offers a lot of potential growth for me, but I guess I'm a bit hesitant of stepping out of my comfort zone and entering a new environment. I want to get out of UCR but at the same time, I feel like I'm deeply rooted here. I want to challenge myself and grow, but I'm also scared of taking risks. So as you can see, I'm in a bit of a dilemma here haha.
I plan to discuss this more in-depth with my academic advisor, but I just wanted to hear all your inputs on my situation. Thanks in advance!
